INSPIRATION FOR PURE DEVOTION TO CHRIST
19-Dec-07
“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” – 2 Cor 11.3
This verse insinuates that we, as believers, should have pure devotion to Christ, and we should! And this is why:
“You see at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Rom 5.6-8
“Since that time He waits for His enemies to be made His footstool, because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” – Heb 10.14
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” – 2 Cor 5.18-21
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on His left. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world’… Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’” – Matt 25.31-34, 41
God currently sees believers as already made perfect, just as we will be at the future judgment, because Christ Jesus died in the past for every sin we commit in between. As a result, we should be wholly devoted to Christ & sow the seeds of Gospel in every way. We ought to “find out what pleases the Lord” (Eph 5.10) & actually do it (Jas 4.17). Christ Himself & His completed work on the cross are what inspire & drive our devotion to Him because of the possibility & the certainty of our salvation.
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” – 2 Cor 9.15
